Members are encouraged to come along and try some of the various group activities on offer. Trying something new can boost confidence and is an opportunity to meet new friends in a supportive environment.
There are currently 16 active Groups within Leyland U3A. They are run in a variety of ways to suit the background experience of the Group leader and the requirements of the Group members. The styles can vary from fully shared learning, with members taking the lead in turn, to instructional learning with all the variants between being quite acceptable.
The idea for a Group normally comes from the suggestion of a U3A member and its formation depends upon sufficient interest from others. It is necessary to have one or more people in the Group who are willing to lead or act as Group Contact.
Groups meetings are held mainly in members homes or, where needs require it, in local meeting rooms. Any costs involved, such as hire of halls etc., are shared between the Group members. Below is the current list of leyland U3A Groups.
For meeting dates and frequency, please check the specific Group page by clicking on the table above.
Please note that once you become a member, full details of telephone numbers for group contacts will be sent, this will enable you to confirm exact details and availability of spaces within groups.
IN ALL CASE: Please contact the Group Coordinator before you attend your first meeting.
Group Leaders are supported in their work by the Coordinator. There are Group Leaders meetings to discuss progress and share ideas.
IMPORTANT: Attendance at these activities is restricted to Leyland U3A Members, but you are welcome to come along and try any group out first without any commitment.
Details of the interest groups are available at our open meetings. Please contact each group’s coordinator to see if there are available places. If not, there is no reason why a second group cannot be started where there is demand.
